Dr. Cheryl Thompson
For me, the Gold Series #MyHairMyStory campaign is the embodiment of the teaching, research and writing I have been doing for over ten years. When I started my work in this field, I set an intention to use the research to learn more about myself, Black women, and our history. My hope is that Gold Series inspires people to see themselves in the products, and to connect with who they are and who they can become
I’m grateful for the opportunity to work with a brand which champions the voices of Black women and the Black experience. As a celebration of our hair journeys and collective experiences, the Gold Series project is personal to me and my loved ones, and is also created in honor of our ancestors. I’m thankful to be creating this piece with a company who supports the advancement of Black directors by creating the space for us to tell our stories through our own lens.”
My connection to the Gold Series line goes beyond an opportunity to work. It speaks to my mother, my sister, my nieces and my community. I’m proud to know that the Gold Series line respects our stories and experiences and trusts us to present their products to the world from our own lens.
As a hairstylist that works with all hair textures, I’m so excited to partner with #GoldSeries on the #MyHairMyStory campaign which shares the stories of women celebrating their beautiful hair. My goal is to continue to work at changing the narrative of beauty in this industry and I’m thankful for the opportunity to share my experiences!
As a black woman, I was elated to be a part of this campaign because of the mere fact that it focused on real black women with real hair stories! It was not just about how amazing the products are but it also highlighted the essence of black hair- showcasing it’s beauty and versatility- which is something we don’t see very often in campaigns.
Being a part of the Gold Series #MyHairMyStory campaign was such an honour and right on time. I feel people of texture need to be highlighted much more often. With products like this being put on the forefront, we are able to not only feel included, but the star of the show. Everyone on this project seemed to have the same passion as myself which made this such an amazing experience; one I wish to relive time and time again!
I have great respect for the work community group Black Women In Motion does, and was eager to be a part of the campaign because of that! I’ve also personally had a tumultuous history with my hair and my ability to care for it, so I was really excited to be able to celebrate the beauty & diversity of Black hair (and Black women at large.) That’s something that never gets old to me.
Your hair is a part of your identity and we should allow everyone to be who they are.
