Our hair tells the story of our identity, our culture, and the strength and resistance of our ancestors. When someone says, “your hair is just your hair” – our hair is not just hair, it’s so powerful.

Monica is an educator, community builder, social entrepreneur and DEI consultant who was celebrated in Canada’s 2019 Top 100 Black Women to watch. She’s worked as an educator over the last 9 years and focuses on anti-oppression, equity, mental health, sex positivity and consent. Monica has over ten years of experience creating culturally centred spaces for learning, unlearning and self-expression.

“For me, this campaign is about taking back. It’s the reclamation and redefining of beauty – a complete display of pride and authenticity. My hope is that Black womxn feel empowered, fierce and seen. Most importantly, that they feel themselves. What we are showcasing through Gold Series is the rich history, power, versatility and resilience of Black hair. We want people to connect to the campaign and hear the stories of the amazing, beautiful women who have shared their journeys and transformations.
